Abstract
1. The blood types and groups of Rh-Hr, Kell, Duffy, MN and ABO of random samples of Korean blood donors were determined using commercial standard sera made in U.S.A.
2. One hundred and fifty four samples were tested with three anti-Rh and two anti-Hr sera: 35.7% of the samples were of phenotype RhiRh2, 31.2% were RhiRh;, 9.1% were khjRho, 7.1% were Rh2Rh2, 6.5% were Rh1Rhz, 5.8% were Rh2Rhz, 3.9% were Rh2Rho and 0.7% were rh. The calculated gene frequencies from these were as follows: Ri=0.5578, R2=0.3054, r=0.810 and Rz=0.0558.
3. Although the incidence must be extremely rare, it was proven that Korean population possess the rare genes Ro and R", by studies of Rha negative family.
4. Fifty-two samples were tested with anti-Kell serum: 51(98.08%) gave negative results which were not confirmed by anti-Kell serum, and only 1(1.92%) gave positive result.
5. Fourty-eight samples were tested with Fya serum: 4(8.33%) gave negative results which were not confirmed by Fyb serum, and 44(91.67%) gave positive results.
6. One hundred and five samples were tested for MN types: the M type was 29.81 %, N type was 30.77 % and MN type was 39.42%. The calculated gene frequencies from these were: m=0.4952 and n=0.5048
7. Twelve hundred and eight blood samples of random Korean patients were tested with anti-A and anti-B sera by both slide and test tube methods. The percentage of each group was: group 0=34.1%, group A=30.3%, group B=25.8% and group AB=9.7%.
8. All group A(116) and group AB(22) blood samples which were found in this survey were tested for
subgroup with anti-Ai Lectin. There was only one A2 cell found, or 0.9% and the remaining 99.1%
was Al. There was no single A2B in this survey and all Korean AB proved to be AIR
9. The gene frequencies calculated from these figures were: p=0.226, q=0.197 and r=0.585.
10. The clinical significance of these data was briefly discussed.
